Historic Bar

Palace Saloon

Florida's oldest bar - serving since 1903

About Palace Saloon

Step back in time at Florida's oldest continuously operating bar. The Palace Saloon has been serving drinks on Centre Street since 1903, surviving Prohibition (as an ice cream parlor) and countless hurricanes. The stunning interior features hand-carved mahogany woodwork, pressed tin ceilings, and an atmosphere that transports you to the golden age of Victorian Fernandina.

Originally built as a haberdashery in the 1870s, the building was converted to a saloon by Adolphus Williams in 1903. The ornate 40-foot mahogany bar, crafted by master carvers, remains the centerpiece of this historic establishment and has witnessed over a century of island stories.

What to Expect

Historic Atmosphere: Marvel at the original gas lamp fixtures (now electric), intricate carvings, and vintage photographs lining the walls. The pressed tin ceiling and mahogany bar are architectural treasures.

Live Music: The Palace hosts live music multiple nights per week, ranging from rock and blues to country and acoustic sets. Check their calendar for current listings.

Cold Drinks: Full bar with cold beer, craft cocktails, and their famous Pirate's Punch. No food served, but you're welcome to bring in takeout from nearby restaurants.

Visitor Tips

The Palace is cash-only (ATM on site). It's a great first or last stop on a historic downtown walking tour. The bar can get crowded on weekend nights during live musicβ€”arrive early for the best spots. Must be 21+ to enter.
