About Egans Creek Greenway
Egans Creek Greenway is an urban nature sanctuary encompassing over 300 acres of preserved wetlands in the heart of Fernandina Beach. This remarkable green space features more than 3 miles of well-maintained trails winding through maritime hammock, freshwater marshes, and coastal wetland ecosystems.
The greenway serves as an important wildlife corridor and nesting habitat for numerous bird species. It's part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and offers some of the best birdwatching opportunities on Amelia Island without having to leave town.
Trails & Wildlife
Main Trail: A paved multi-use path perfect for walking, jogging, and cycling runs the length of the greenway, connecting Atlantic Avenue to Jasmine Street.
Boardwalk Sections: Elevated boardwalks traverse the wetland areas, offering excellent vantage points for wildlife observation without disturbing the habitat.
Wildlife Viewing: Look for great blue herons, egrets, wood storks, and other wading birds. Alligators are frequently spotted in the marsh areas—observe from a safe distance. Turtles, fish, and various songbirds are common.
Visitor Tips
Early morning is best for birdwatching and cooler temperatures. Bring binoculars and a camera with zoom lens. Bug spray is essential, especially in summer months. Dogs are allowed on leash. Multiple parking areas and trailheads provide convenient access.
