Amelia Island Museum of History

Florida's first spoken history museum - 4,000 years of island heritage

About the Museum

Journey through 4,000 years of island history at Florida's first spoken history museum. Housed in the historic 1935 Nassau County Jail, the museum showcases the remarkable story of Amelia Islandβ€”the only U.S. location to have flown eight different flags.

From the Timucua Native Americans to Spanish and French explorers, from the lawless era of pirates to the dignified Victorian period, each chapter of the island's fascinating past comes alive through artifacts, photographs, and engaging docent-led tours.

Exhibits & Tours

8 Flags Tour: The signature one-hour docent-led tour explores the eight nations that have claimed Amelia Island. Available Monday-Saturday at 11am and 2pm, Sunday at 2pm.

Ghost Tour: A spine-tingling Friday evening walking tour covering 14 blocks of historic downtown, departing from St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 6pm.

Historic Pub Crawl: Combine history with local watering holes on the first and third Wednesday of each month (reservations required).

Self-Guided Exhibits: Explore nine exhibit areas including the Civil War & Florida Railroad, Spanish Missions, Shrimping Industry, and an authentic jail cell from the building's past.
